My ISP has been blacklisted!!!!!
I have recently had a number of emails bounced back at me from my ISP "BT Openworld" from home and at work. The reason given in the returned mail message is that my ISP is blacklisted as a spamming agent!
Is there anything that I can do about this or is it just something I wil have to live with until BT get their act together and stop spamming people? Has anybody else had a similar experience?

Contact your ISP. They are probably blacklisted not because they are spamming people, but because they are an open relay. You are paying your ISP for services that they aren't delivering due to their misconfiguration. Complain to them or find a new ISP.

lol unless they are your broadbrand provider, I'd just change ISPs... no need to stick with a dialup company that is "evil" when there are so many choices available out there.

Your ISP might not even know he has an open relay. Once the relay is closed it will take about a week for the services to catch on and open him up again.
Earlier this year I stopped getting emails from the US Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Missouri. Bad news since that Court is fully on line (all filings, notices and other court business are handled via email.) After a few days without receiving routine emails, I went to my ISP, who checked. It seems the court had an open relay and some spammers from California were using it to send their stuff. One or more of the anti-spamming services had blacklisted the court's email server. I notified the court. After being in denial for a day or two they caught on and solved the problem. The matter went all the way to Washington. Big mess. BTW, the court's mail server wasn't set up to detect bounced emails, so they didn't know they had a problem until I called. They are the government. They don't make mistakes. By rule if you don't get something they send it is your fault. CH Last edited by Computer Hobbyist; 09-12-2002 at 09:55 AM. |

Thanks for the feedback I have notified my ISP on their support number and after 10 minutes they gave me an e-mail address to write to!!!!!
"What good is an email address if you cannot send mail Mr Anderson"!! A robot did reply and said "it is not our policy to reply to emails but we will look into it" !! This is the service that £30 per month gets you!!! Iam using broadband on a contract at home and at work and will probably change ISP's soon anyway due to British Telecom continually dropping my connection at random intervals. You are my broadband my only broadband You make me happy when skies are grey Please dont take my broadband away!!! |
