I recently heard Starbucks was going to do the same thing.
My apartments tried wireless by the peole that do all the Hilton Hotels. The concept is great. The service I had stunk. My speed was 2 to 3 times better than dialup. boo hiss. |

I subscribe to wireless in my area. It rocks! faster than cable - typically I get 700- 900kb down, up is pretty good too.
Best thing to do is get an exit clause and require minimum standards in their performance so you have your out if you don't like it. If they can meet their claims, they won't mind doing this. I recommend the try. |

I'd like it...the service price isn't that bad where I live...but a friend of mine checked into it, and it's about $500 worth of setup fees/equipment.
They seem like fools though, because they insisted (and now this friend of mine insists) that the wireless T1's speed is 1.5 megabytes per second. |

I’ve been using wireless for over 6 months and I love it. The service contracts ranged anywhere from $200.00 to $500.00 depending on the length of the contract and all equipment provided by the ISP. My average speeds are around 650-700kb up and down.

Actually Catch the T1 speed is 1.536 (24 channels X 64k). That is probably the local backbone speed and not individual user speed. I would think they would have a larger pipe than T1. It wouldn't take many user downloading large files at same time to hose a T1.
The best thing is as Paltinumadvice suggested. Get an agreement up front what user speed will be and option to get out if they cain't meet expectations. Chas

A T1 (1.5 Mbps) would be impossible. They would have to be on atleast a T3 (45Mbps) to offer broadband and I would imagine that they would need a couple of those after a while. I have cable and I think they are using an OC carrier for thier backbone. My speeds are f*in great: 5 mbps down and 1 mbps up. Can't beat that for 30 a month with no setup cost. If you live in Jersey get Optimum Online they are great.

Wanna: Essentially yes. You all will be sharing some kind of T or OC lines. It will be shared bandwidth. It's a lot better than the alternatives if you have no wired broadband available in your area, it HAS to be better than satellite with its lag and terrible upload speeds. I have a customer with Direcway 2 way and it's bad - download speeds are around 250k unless you use their proxy and uploads are around 20 to 40k (yes - dialup speeds even though it's 2 way satellite). He is very disappointed and is seriously considering getting a fractional T1 - he's just trying to justify the expense.
I have one customer with Sprint Broadband Direct. They signed on just before Sprint discontinued accepting new customers. This is similar to what your store is offering but on a much larger scale and it's been excellent. Downloads are around 750k to 1 meg and uploads are around 75k and service has been very reliable. Your key is going to be just how much bandwidth they have and how many customers are going to be sharing it. |

Ok I get it
The local coverage is supposedly 8 miles from what a friend told me I live in a small town in Maine so sounds like would be a good deal for me not many people on it I would guess most are afraid of the cost ...Thnks
