website passwords

Hello.

I'm wanting to put some documents online that I would like to password-protect. The problem is that the hosting service being used is pretty (well totally!) limited - no CGI, Frontpage extensions, ASP etc unless someone pays for it... and I don't think that's going to happen. So what's my best bet to protect these documents? I've found a few different password Javascripts, but I understand that these aren't that secure... so how 'insecure' are they? Are there any alternatives that don't require special hosting features?

Cheers!

Are they running Apache? If so, you can use .htaccess to protect a directory.

The site is hosted by doteasy.com. They've apparently got "Linux and NT systems running Microsoft IIS and Apache web servers"... though I don't know if that means our site is on one or the other or both? I'd read something about .htaccess but didn't realise this could be set-up without needing special hosting services. I'll look into it.

Thanks a lot!

I would steer clear of Javascripts for password protection. They are quick and easier to set up but they are not very secure at all. Go with mairving's suggestion if they allow it.
