Router settings

I own a SMC Barricade 4 port 10/100mbps Broadband Router. I'm looking into hosting a MU*(kind of like IRC) on my machine but it seems that the router is blocking out access from outside. I don't know anything about setting up my router and the manual didn't explain anything about it except basic setup. I want people to telnet(yes, telnet or other telnet clients) to dreamcatcher.dyndns.org port 8888 when they want to connect to the MU*. My guess here is I have to fiddle around with the Virtual Server settings on the router, but I don't know and I want to hear from you experts. Thanks!

Cool

If you don't get a answer here, there is a forum for SMC

The first thing you try is forwarding port 8888 in the router to your machine's LAN IP address. If the manual only has basic setup, I would bet that there is a help system in the router itself - look for it when you log into it. I've only worked with a SMC once, several months ago, and I don't recall any details.

I've got the same router.
It's not terribly difficult to set up, IF you understand the terminology.
Go to Advanced setup, NAT, Special apps.
Put in port 8888 for bot trigger and public, set it to TCP or UDP, and enable it. If it doesnt work as one, set it as the other.
Another option, is to go to NAT, Virtual server, enter the IP of your computer on the LAN, (usually 192.168.2.100) and set private and public ports to 8888.
SMC has a tutorial on their site as well...worth reading.

I heard that my router doesn't support loopback, so I cannot use my domain name to connect but localhost instead on my machine. I need to ask some friends to test the connection for me and I'll come back here again if I experiencing anymore problems. Thanks!
