Is there a special prog I need to make pdf files, or can they be made in word 2000?

Adobe Acrobat 5 full version is what we use in work. Other than that I dont know of any. I think the trial versions only allow you to read them but not create or edit.

As far as I know, you need the full version of Acrobat (not just the "reader") to creat PDF files.

To convert files to pdf you need to have the PDF Writer driver files installed or you might want to try the following link:

http://www.webattack.com/get/pdfproducer.shtml

Works with most texts files

I use FinePrint pdfFactory - it installs as a printer driver. It's shareware ($49.95) but the "trial" version doesn't expire, it just stamps a small ad banner at the bottom of each page. It works exceptionally well, much better than the old Adobe PDF Writer that came with Photodeluxe Business Edition.

There are quite a few things that create PDF files, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Distiller, Quark, PHP, and also some of the shareware programs that glc mentioned.

Hi force_flow2002,

Another option is to pick up an OEM version of WordPerfect Office 2001 or 2002 for cheap. The have output to PDF files via printer selection. Plust you get all the other goodies that come with the package.

HTH

There are now tons of programs that will make PDF files. None work as well as Acrobat but none costs as much either. If you really need to use it often and are sharing the files Acrobat is the best choice.

Adobe has a PDF creation program online. Check Adobe web site to learn more. It appears they let you create one or two for free and then they charge you if you want to create more. But of course this is a solution only if you create PDFs ocasionally. If you do it on a daily basis then follow the suggestions above.

Yes, Illustrator 8-10 will create .pdf files.

Earlier versions may as well, but I am not sure.

There's an option in PageMaker: Export to PDF....

Is this option for making a PDF too?

Okay app, downloaded and tested it. It works great with txt documents but when I tried a doc document it was just garbage.
Conlusion, if you really need the PDF writing capability you might just want to cough up the big bucks and buys. I hear it's more money than Microsoft Office.

Fine Print has never given me garbage and if you don't mind the ad banner it's free. Try it - if you like it you can spend the $50 to get rid of the banner.
