Unhappy internet dials in by itself.

We have a p3 1.13 ghz laptop that we've had for a while. Whenever it's turned on, it automatically tries to connect without our concent. We had it on the internet for a while with no firewalls, but we just recently got Norton Internet Security. I've checked for viruses and stuff with Lavasoft's Adaware, is it possible that it's a virus, or is it something else? I think i saw this same question no this forum a while back, but now I can't find it. Any help would be appreciated.

Check the programs set to start up on boot; you could get some clue from that. Is your NAV set to download or check updates at boot time? Try keeping a copy of ZoneAlarm running to see what program tries to access the net.

HI,
If you have an instant messenger, like AOL or Yahoo, they sometimes try to connect on start-up. I wouldguess it is something with an installed program. I have had spyware that automatically connects but got rid of it with ad-aware. That shouldbn't be it because you already did that.

No, it sounds like someone got onto IE and when the connection box came up, hit connect automatically. I would suggest copying down the number that you use to connect with, and create a new connection.

No need to do that - just go into Internet Options and change it to never dial a connection - then nothing will trigger, just toss a shortcut to your dialup connection onto your quicklaunch and manually connect.
