problem with downloading .exe files
when i try to download an exe file ( media player 9 beta)
with left clicking instead of asking me what to do with the file it opens a new page (in the same window) and seems to be loading the exe as if it is a html page, sometimes i get the (i think) quicktime symbol in the middle of the page. unistalling quicktime doesnt help+ my dad needs it for medical cd's, its his pc) if its a small file i could find it by seaching for the name in windows folder but that doesnt work for media player) right clicking and save target as works but this is only supported for the mp7.1 download link. does anyone have an idea on how to restore this to normal? |

I've personally never let Quicktime or any other app associate itself automatically with file types, so I'm not 100% sure if it has the ability to associate itself with exe files, but check in the Quicktime preferences and see if there's a way to un-associate it with any filetypes you don't want it associated with.
Also, what exactly do you mean rightclick and save as isn't supported? Is WMP9 an actual exe or is it some other type of file? I'm not following you here. If it's an executable it should be donwloadable as a binary file, if it isn't then it isn't of course .

The link to the MP9 player isn't really a link to the player, it's a cookie placer, then the download and then to the player. Your browser isn't detecting the link correctly somehow. It works fine for me.
Try direct clicking on this: MP9 |

wow thanks very much reboot that link did the trick perfectly im not that techical as you are but i think your explantion is correct.
i have a firewall (zonealarm) and some popupkillers and so running, maybe one of those is causing a problem, ill check them out. Xayd, i mean when i right click it gives me an error message (the windows stop sign with 'ok' button') . i normally never let file associations setup automatically , its my dads pc, he installed quicktime from a medical compendium cd (an explanation of all new medication i believe). since i dont have internet on my own pc i have to use this one. again thanks for all the help guys |

If you'll notice, all I did was take out the javascript reference to opening another window, and directly to the download.
If you ever come across anything else like that, just look at the link, and take out everything before the http:// and anything after the REAL end of the link. For example, the MS link is this: Quote:

Why put a javascript to open a url that has the full link there anyways.
Microsoft, always ridiculous .

It's a popup window that gives a link to instructions for removing MP9 if you have problems.
