Question

Hey all. I have my site on NBCI, formerly Xoom, and its just ridiculous. I want to get my own home for it, since NBCI does not work most hours out of the day. So, where should I grab my domain name, for the best price? Does it matter?
And what do you recommend for a host? I have no clue here, there are so many. I don't want to get screwed... thanks!

Well, you have networksolutions.com and the Dreambook one...

Have a look here: http://webservices.cnet.com/html/aisles/Web_Hosting.asp

Here is the place I go to to register my domain http://www.easyhosting.com , it's parked on their server but I don't know if I will use them to host my site.

You can't beat the cost though, it's $15 CAD.

http://www.namezero.com

It's free

Works ok most of the time. If it's for a personal site, it will do, but for a business it's better to buy one with a fixed IP address

ahhh...I hate namezero.com they really screwed tons of people who actually wanna pay for domains. A bunch of 12-year olds who just sign up good domains all day long and take away from people who will actually use them.

I use a kindof expensive option, but I am in the business of "You get what you pay for" state of mind, I've been on the internet long enough to actually learn that the hard way LOL

I use http://www.pennyhost.com
They charge 15/month but they are quick and dependable and very good tech support. Rated top on ispcheck!

DON'T go to Network Solution or InterNic to register your domain, they charge $70 for two years, which is a rip off.

Try http://www.000domains.com , which is $13.50USD per year, which is less than half price then Network Solution or InterNic, it's a name, paying twice as much isn't gonna make the service twice as good - if any at all.

For a ever cheaper place, go to http://www.joker.com , quoting from their site "EURO 9 - EURO 12 (~ 8 USD - 11 USD Depending on the amount of registrations per month"

I signed up for 000domains and it's going as smooth as it can be, haven't tried Joker yet.

As for hosting, try http://www.mydomain.com , it doesn't host the site, but has a number of tools for hosting for free. You can use it so when people type in your domain, it goes to your free hosted site like F2S, Xenox, Spaceports, etc. They can also forward all emails to one inbox, suggest you give it a try.

This is from InterNics site. As far as I can tell they don't do the registering. You have to go through one of the listed regisrers which is listed at the URL I posted in my last message. There were some that were offering some good deals.
