caching question
hi:
type in a address, does the browser: first look for a previous file stored in temporary internet files as this is where internet files are cached. or go to the website, check for an update then return the new file. if the website is updated then a new file is returned overwriting the cached file or if the website is not updated the cached file is brought up thanks thanks |

glenrose,
The pages you visit are stored in the cache and it is used primarily for when you scroll backwards or forwards using the browser buttons. How IE handles checking the sites for newer versions depnds on how you have configured the browser. Go to Tools > Internet Options > General and click on the Settings button in the Temporary Internet Files box. You will then have a choice to check - Every time you visit the page - Every time you start IE - Automatically - Never For a description of each choice, click the context sensitive help button (?) and then click on the choice you want a description for. For general information about the cache go here When I first read the question, I thought you were asking about the auto-complete cache. That info is kept in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs AutoComplete User Names and Passwords for Forms are under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms\SPW AutoComplete Web Addresses are under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider\ or HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU Hope that helps.
