dcc activity on internet relay chat through a hub
does anyone know how to get a dcc server working through a hub on irc? ive tried fireserv, where u set port to some number, but it hasnt worked, i think i read something about needing a ip port scanner or something like that, anyone know what i vaguely remember?

Hub or router? DCC ain't gonna happen through a router unless you put the machine in the DMZ, and even then it doesn't always work.

If it's a hub and the machine has a public IP address assigned by the ISP, it should work with no modifications. If you are using a router or ICS or any other NAT proxy, it won't.

actually, the cable modem isnt hooked up to the hub, its connected to my roommate's computer, and someway he got it working on mine (he took some networking basics classes, i think)
im not sure about the ip address, but if i had to guess, i'd say it is public, but somehow shared because when we first tried to get it working there was some problem about seperate ip addresses for each pc |

You are using ICS or some other sharing proxy from what you describe. That's NAT. You can't run DCC through that. Your roommate's machine would be able to do it, but not yours.
