I want to make my own server so I can have OOOOODLES of space, It would be a WindowsXP or 2000 Server Edition System. Thats not important though, what I want to know is would it be hard to get a domain name to work with my server and would I have to spend lots of $$ on a connection for it, like could I use a cable connection?
My server would be all purpose, hosting my sites, FTPs and all that good stuff. |

The first best answer is probably contained in your ISP's EULA. Is your ISP assigning you a dynamic IP? Are you allowed to run servers on the network? etc etc.
The requirements of each server are different. Are you going to run your own DNS? Is your machine on 24x7? etc etc. But again start with your ISP's policy documentations. |

The short answer to your question is YES. I did all the stuff you want to do and it was not very difficult.
After you follow the advice of the DR and Statica you will have a lot more info to go on. Then get your domain name and register it and go from there. It was a good learning experience for me. Good Luck
