no IP on my computer? can't acess net.

this is kind of weird.. i have use my laptop to acess the internet through AOL, or my school dial up. Just then, I brought it to my parent's house (they have cable), and plug it in through the router, and use it. When i return home, i can't connect using dial up anymore. when i try looking for the ip in dos, it says:

Windows 2000 IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Cable Disconnected

Then when i tried one of those IPfinder software, it says, no ip address!!!
When i try to connet using dial up, it'll say something about ppp terminate, or say something IP. anyway, what could be the problem, and how do i solve it? I tried everything i know.

Have you tried going to Internet explorer > TOOLS > Internet options > Connections and adding the connection settings to always dial a connection?

Anyways, I dont know about AOL, everytime I feel that I've figured out how AOhelL works, there's a new programmer whose been working on a new version while sucking on a bottle of cough syrup, to bring out something entirely ridiculous...
