DSL activation … ????
OK, I ordered my DSL kit, picked up a 10/100 PCI Ethernet card, got everything all set up,
Now a couple of questions… a)Do I need to wait for a solid light on my modem to know that my account has been activated? Right now one of the four lights are blinking a few times every five seconds or so. The install guide doesn’t say… in fact they charge $35 for any phone support questions you may have. How do I know if my account has been activated? b)My activation date is for today OCT 4th, now I’d guess every company is different. But it’s now 1:00 PM and still no connection every time I try. I figured they’d connect you perhaps midnight as soon as the 4th came around……is this a common trait? Do they wait till 11:59 PM or something on the 4th to connect you? They start billing on the 5th regardless if I’m connected or not. As you can see I’m anxious and excited to get going here because my dial up has slowed to a crawl…then bumped me off 6 times in the last ten min while surfing this forum.lol I can’t wait to tell my dial up company where to put it… BTW dial up here costs with the internet call waiting feature $34.44 /m CND where DSL cost $34.95/m CND (on special). Hope DSL works better than my dial up lol. ….oops gotta dial again, bumped yet once more, Hmmm Richard |

You basically know when your account has been activated if you can surf
I know that Bell HSE usually is rather prompt on activation dates etc. Also, they dont start billing immediately, they usually bill about 4-5 days after you receive your kit. I dont know how Sprint is though.Phone support charges are usually for assisted installation. If you were able to get through the installation of the NIC etc, I dont think tech support will charge you (if they do, its time to show the DSL ISP the same place as your diallup ISP). Just give em a call and let them figure out why, if at all, you arent getting connected. Good luck. |

Statica
called them, explained what was happening... turned out to be two things 1) I didn't open/install the phone filters from their bags, incase it had to be returned (that's why I received the flashing light on my modem) I figured it would only introduce noise if I tried to use the phone, I didn't think by not using them, it would cause it to not work at all. 2) I actually had a typo in my ID too.. lol but he did say (and he brought this up, not me) technically they have untill midnight to activate me. Anyway so....WHEW HOO it works!!!! Richard |
