***!!
Nothing new or changed here. Last night it decided it did not want to connect to Hotmail anymore. Here's what I get:

Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: '', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x80004005

and

Header download for the 'Inbox' folder did not complete. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: '', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x80004005'

Any suggestions??? Thanks..

pete

Hi Pete

You are lucky

I have not been able to access Hotmail for about a month now. After I log in it just hangs - I don't even get an error message.
Sent an email asking Hotmail for help. Guess what - Hotmail says I have not got a problem but if the problem persists I should contact them with a full description which must/must include the error message.

Goodbye Hotmail Yahoo here i come.

Welcome to the world of free email. Go with Yahoo. Although they can be troublesome once in a while with lousy errors like what Pete has...sometimes very delayed email delivery. It is sporadic though. Has been pretty good the past few weeks though.

I like it because:

1) 6MB Sotrage
2) POP Access
3) Free and I can always access it via the web if the POP end is not working.

You get what you pay for though.

What's the matter with your ISP's mail servers? Use a free forwarding service if you want to keep the same e-mail address for life. I haven't found an ISP yet, free or pay, whose mail service is worse than *any* of the free web based services.

I've had this problem before

From Technet

SYMPTOMS
========

When you try to download e-mail from your Hotmail account, the download may not
work, and you may receive the following error message:

Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail',
Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol:
HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Proxy Error (Software caused connection to
abort)', Port:0, Secure (SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC3F

CAUSE
=====

This issue can occur if the MSN, The Microsoft Network redirect process is not
working.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue:

1. In Outlook Express, click Accounts on the Tools menu.

2. Click the Mail tab, click the Hotmail account, and then click Properties.

3. Click the Server tab, and then change the HTTP Server URL to the following
Web address:

http://oe.hotmail.com/secure/hmdata

4. Click Apply, and then click OK.

MORE INFORMATION
================

The original setting for the HTTP Server URL is:

http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp

SYMPTOMS
========

When you use Outlook Express to open e-mail in a Hotmail account, you may
receive the following error message:

An unknown error has occurred.
An invalid character was found inside an entity reference.

-or-

Header download for the 'FolderName' folder did not complete. Account:
'Hotmail account', Server:
'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail,
Server Response: 'An invalid character was found inside an entity
reference.', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number 0xC00CE50E

After you receive this error message, you cannot download any more e-mail. You
can still access the Hotmail e-mail using the Hotmail Web interface.

CAUSE
=====

This issue can occur if there is a damaged message header on the Hotmail server.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this issue, delete the affected message from the Hotmail server. To
do this, connect to the following Hotmail Web site:

http://www.hotmail.com

From this Web site, you can read and delete the e-mail messages until the damaged
one is gone.

NOTE: There is no known way to determine exactly which e-mail message has the
problem.

Yes sometimes changing the settings doesn't work either. Reloading hotmail in OE will work too
