Java VM---important Plug in.

JavaTM Virtual Machine (JVM)

As many people are awhere, Sun and MS are not very friendly when it comes to the sharing of software.

Web Pages of Today, require more plugins then ever before.

Recently doing DSL tech support, I have been having more and more calls about webpages not being displayed correctly.

One of the patterns has been with people using IE 6(native on XP) that does not come with Virtual Machine. It is not an opition to install. It can also effect people using IE 5.5 if the Virtual Machine is not installed(opitional).

In Fact, it has even caused problems with some modems and routers. Seems the Software in some of the modems and routers needs Virtual Machine to be displayed correctly.

There have been two fixes for this. One is to download, install a new Firmware for the modems, which really down grades the software to a previous verison. The Other opition has been a solution that was given to me by a product speicalist.

This second opition Directs the user to goto www.sun.com
search for Java VM. It is a free download that adds the plugin to your browsers.

After learning this, I was fast to install in on my system.

I just wanted to pass this along, because i am sure it will help someone reading this.

I had a few problems with VM running XP IE6 before SP-1, but they seem to be fixed with the service pack.

By the way, those who bought XP in March 2002 or before have the Microsoft VM built in to IE 6.0. If you would like to read why they had to stop, click on the site below.

The VM was not built in IE 6.0 that was released with XP, but was available for d/l from MS until March 2002.
