All these types of things can be toggled in your OE or IE options.

(too lazy right now to look at the exact location of said option)

For some reason I thought you were talking about Outlook Express. Anyway, to get rid of those links in the address bars drop down list, just go to Tools>Internet Options, and click the "Clear History" button. Also you may want to set the amount of days to keep history to zero.

Forgot to note...

only the addresses you manually type in the address bar will be in your drop down address bar.

Have you tried turning off "autocomplete"?

yup, but I just want to clear it. when I turn it back on they come back plus there's a "Use inline Autocomplete" option that sounds like it would help but it doesn't

I use IE 5.5 and going to tools/internetoptions/content tab/autocomplete button and clicking "clear forms" button does that for me. And I do all this with Autocomplete enabled.

Cool

If I understand your question correctly you want to delete all the site addresses in the drop down menue on the address bar (sometimes we have to get rid of those porn sites eh.).

Only way I know is to completely cleary history and temp files. Control panel, right click Internet options, General tab. I don't know of a way to keep it from repopulating though.

I don't know whether previous versions of Tweak UI have this feature, but Tweak UI for Windows XP has an option to clear the recently used files history on exit (including IE address bar)

Yes the previous versions had the same function under the "paranoia" tab.

Thanks for the info.

LordofEchoSide:
So I guess this is a good way to keep your address bar empty.

I don't suppose there's a way to clear only certain things. I want to keep the Run from being cleared

you could go right into your History folder in your C: drive. Then delete only the things you want to. But what a pain. I suggest making a nice list of favorites that you can always have handy, then your address bar should never get cluttered with odds and ends. I have been using IE 6 for a while now and IE 5 might work a little different, I cant remember.

With Tweak UI you can select not to have the "RUN" selection cleared.

Well if you like playing around with the registry then you could do START > RUN > regedit > then go over to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs

Here's a "fun" way to do it everytime you log off from your computer. Delete off the url's you dont want; then right click on the TypedURLs branch and select EXPORT; from the ensuing dialog box save it (for example) on the desktop as (for example) haha.reg

Everytime you want to clear off your URL history, double click the file haha.reg and your typed URL history disappears.

HTH

NB: "playing" around with the registry, may have dire effects on your computer; please be sure you either know what you are doing or follow directions correctly

I realize I'm coming in late here, but the program Window Washer cleans the IE addy list and a lot of other clutter away too.
