cable connection sharing question
Hey Everyone,
I was at Comp Usa the other day and I passed by some cable modems and some routers and I had this idea. This guy who lives upstairs from me has a cable modem and a resulting connection. Now I know you can share a cable connection but what is the effect in terms of speed? Can both computers be logged on to the internet at the same time? What hardware is needed for this to take place? I was thinking I could share his connection (with his approval of course) and since it's so expensive we could split it down the middle. If anyone is inclined to answer this question, be my guest. And as always, Thank you and keep the peace.

Moderator comment:
Normally we do not prevent discussion of sharing an Internet connection, but these discussions have all been regarding sharing it on your own network. However, sharing with a neighbor is crossing the line, it's a real quick way to get the account closed if the provider catches on. This is considered theft of service. Having said that, I would suggest to the poster that if he/she still wants to do it, he/she review the threads in the Networking forum, there are literally dozens of them addressing broadband sharing. Any threads that are started questioning or disagreeing with my decision to close this thread will also be closed. It's my judgement call as a moderator. Last edited by glc; 10-15-2002 at 12:48 AM. |
