I'm connected but i cannot surf!
Hi all!
I'm having a bit of a trouble trying to surf the WWW. I can dial-up and connect and everything looks fine. Then when I try to go to any page in IE6, i get DNS messages in the status bar and a message that pops up saying, 'internet explorer could not open this page'. whats happening? i reckon there is a setting somewhere i've missed but i cannot get it to work. any ideas? |

LOL, sorry simple fix. I just needed to add the Wsock32.dll file to my windows directory.
Working like a dream again

Err... where had it gone? Was it out visiting in other folders? I strongly suspect this is how computer viruses get started.
Seriously though, what I'm hearing is it was working then it stopped working and you found the win sock was missing so replaced it... but what happened to make it suddenly disappear? |

No idea where it had gone, although I did format my hard disk and clean install Win98 so this must have had something to do with it.
According to Microsoft knowledge base, its not such a big deal, so why so suspicious?? Must admit, no idea where it went though.. |

It happened once to me. I had to reformat which caused me much grief.
If that would happen again, the only thing I need to do is copy the Wsock32.dll file from another windows machine?

Yeah, its just one of those things sometimes. Nothing to be highly concerned about I don't think...
I found a good website address which gave a really useful guide to installing the Winsock32.dll file which screenshots. It also gave the file to download for different OS if you were having trouble locating it. If I find the URL I'll post it back here.. It's a fairly simple process though. Just a matter of copying the file to your system DIR.
