Dial-Up as Fast as DSL/Cable?

Hey,

Has anyone here heard of or tried this company that claims it can make your dial modems as fast as a dsl line? The company is called the Artera Group and says for $9.95 a month will significantly make your modem faster.

It is geared to those who can't get DSL or Cable or don't want to pay the prices for hi-speed connections.

Any comments?

There's a prog called "Xteq Systems X-Setup", where I noticed that it was able to increase speeds of a "UART-compatible 56k modem" upto 900Kbps.

I don't know if this actually works (since the 2 modems I have don't seem to be "UART-compatible"), but that's all I could find out.

I haven't checked this out to see exactly what they say they're offering. However, at first glance, it seems to be a play on words to me. Yeah, they may be able to make the modem deal with those speeds... I can buy that. But data can't transfer that fast on the lower frequencies used by analog modems. And the higher frequencies are DSL and... coming even as we speak... wireless. Granted, I'm a little out of the telephony loop as far as dialup goes, no pun intended, but even 56k modems can't give you 56k because of government restrictions. Yes?

It's a bunch of hooey - it looks like it's just a proxy that interacts with your browser cache. There are very few ways to actually speed up an analog modem connection - and even then it won't be very noticeable, and will definitely not exceed 56k.
