Anyone know where this is coming from?

Last week, I did a clean install of windows 2000. I have since been getting these popup ads, they just appear on my desktop. I have run adaware, I did trend micro's trojan scan, I am running avg anti virus and I am using a firewall. I do not have any irc or messaging programs installed on this machine. I would like to know how these are popping up so I can get rid of it. They are starting to tick me off. Thanks.

Uninstall Windows Messenger. This is a new type of ad, and it only relies on you having a connection and Messenger installed.

I am new to windows 2000. With 98, I know you put in the windows98 cd and you can add or remove components. I tried that with the 2000 cd and messenger does not show up. How do you remove it or disable it?

=edit=
Ok, I think I got it. Under "Administrative tools" - "component services" I found messenger and disabled it. Hopefully that is it.
