Outlook Send Locks Up

Sorry, but this may be vague at first. I try to help my dad keep his computer running right, and sometimes don't have all the knowledge I need to do so. This site has helped me quite a few times.

The most recent problem involves MS Outlook (I don't recall which version right now). He can receive and view emails, but when he tries to send or forward, the computer seems to lock up. I found that you can Ctrl-Alt-Del and kill Outlook, then go back in and the message is in the Outbox and goes out. I checked his mail settings and don't see anything out of place, but could be missing something. I need to spend more time over there checking things out.

One thing that may be related. He went to one of the sites that has an online virus scan, and now has(?) a suite of services he isn't sure what they do. I think(?) one of them scans his email. Could it be scanning the outgoing messageduring the time it appears to be locked up? It sure is slow doing so if that is the case.

I'll try to get more info on this and add it to the thread. Thanks. DKC

If it is the antiviral package playing havoc have you tried doing a send/recieve then walking away for about 30 mins to see if it does work, albeit eventually? Then at least you may have found the problem...

Maybe it is a virus itself, try AVG from www.grisoft.com
