Renewing IP adress...
Hello,
I was just wondering on how to get a new IP adress,I have AIM and the connection keeps getting interupted. On the AIM help file,it said I should renew my internet adress.I know my ISP gives me those "Dynamic IP" thingies.I also need to know this so I can renew the IP on my dad's computer, when i hooked it up to the router I didn't know what I was doing and I still don't. Here's the setup.... 1.Road Runner cable modem to WAN port of the D-Link DI604 router 2.1st computer is to my bro's,it used to be the only computer with internet acces so it has that little "RoadRunner Medic" program so I don't know how he got his IP adress. 3.2nd computer is mine...* 4.3rd computer is my dad's* *These two computers used the same IP adress when I went to the Internet Connection Wizard. |

I don't know if it's just me, but I'm not sure I understand what your asking. A dynamic IP should update automaticlly... Are you sure AIM specified the IP adress

The router has the dynamic IP from your ISP, regardless of what the computer's say.
Usually, to change one's IP, you must change the MAC address of the router. Go into the router setup, and look for "Clone MAC", and do it. See what happens. If that doesn't work, you'll have to call the ISP to find out how they assign IP's. |

The router handles the IP address assignment to the computers, and it uses a private IP range. The ISP's DHCP server handles the real IP address assignment. The router shares the single real IP with all the computers hooked to it using NAT (network address translation). To renew the real IP, you can try power cycling the router and modem. To renew an individual computer's private IP, you reboot it.
Uninstall the Road Runner software from your brother's computer, and make sure ALL computers are set to obtain IP addresses automatically using DHCP. |
