I've been talking with glc about Opera and he is real happy with it, especially security and speed.
Who else here uses Opera? What version do you like? As I see you have choices. What about the Java Runtime option? Thinking about d/l'ing on my test machine to try it out. Right now, I use IE 6 and have been trying out Mozilla. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Carl |

I tried Opera 6.0* (I can't remember the version exactly), but I like Mozilla more, Mozilla doesn't shoe ads all the time.
As for the Java Runtime option, if you have Java Runtime Env installed, you don't need to download the Java version. |

Kubie, give Phoenix a try, if you liked Mozilla you will like this, as for opera I use that too and it is fast... But lately I have been getting errors on links.. I would have to click them twice for them to load... thats why i stopped using it for now... I'm sure a reinstall would fix the problem but I just havent done it...

Doobie,
I'll take a look at it. Thats what this play machine is for. Maybe I'll find something I like. Carl |

I have Opera ver 6.05 (free version) installed, I like Opera, but it’s not as fast as Mozilla. I only use Opera if I have problems getting a page to load with Mozilla and if Opera won’t work I revert back to IE.

lil jimmie,
I've been using Mozilla more and more and have to agree it is the fastest of all I tried. Still going to give Opera a thorough testing as I like it too. Doobie, I appreciate your idea about Phoenix but it really still is in beta. Also it seems to be a Mozilla based browser. One thing I did find out is that it "steals" image file associations. Couldn't open a .jpg, .bmp, or avi unless it was with Phoenix. Had to go back into Irfanview to reset them. Carl |

Using Opera 6.05, have had a few different versions. The javascript does not work right and it tends to crash quite often. The only good thing about it when it crashes is that it remembers where you were so you can pick up where you left off. I am trying Mozilla now, so far it is just OK.

My only bad remark about Opera is it does tend to hang when loading pages from time to time.

You might also try Smart Explorer, located at http://www.smarteque.com/ I have used Mozilla, Opera, Netyscape, and IE as well, and have found that some pages only work in IE and Smart Explorer. The thing I like best is no popup or popunders, unless I turn them on. |

RoyKelly,
There are alot of brousers out there. I'm finding out that they all have their good things and bad things. Free is a good thing. ![]() I now have Opera 6.05 and Java RT. Env and have been changing things with the help of glc. Here is a problem when using PC Mechanic. There are lines separating each forum and each post in the forum. With Opera there are random lines missing. Example is that the page shows Hardware and Assembly/OC on the same line. When you click on a forum, each poster has a different size box so some posts are to the right because their box is larger. Also, when in a forum, some posts are not separated by the line. Gotta read carefully or you will click on forum or wrong post. Carl |

Karl,
You are right. I checked PC Mech with Opera and see the same problem. Don't know why, but guess I'll stick with Msart Explorer, Netscape 4.79 and IE for PC Mech as I don't have this problem with them. Sure makes it easier to read. Take care, |
