I just got MSN 8.0 in the mail and installed it. First off, I hate the layout and everything about it. Secondly, it made my internet slow as hell. It takes forever to load a freaking page on it. I have Windows XP Home Edition and a 56k dialup. I was wondering if there was a way I could get rid of MSN 8.0 and go back to MSN Explorer (not sure what version it was, it came with my comp that i got in May) or if there is someway to somehow make it faster. Thanks alot for any help.

Hi CoryC787,
I have MSN, but have never used MSN-E. I'm running a Win 98.2 box and just turned everything 'off' in MSCONFIG.exe in Startup and just go straight to IE and OE. I have no need for AOL, nor MS's attempt to clone it ! Never tried v8, but hopefully you can just disable it as I did... ![]() TwoRails |

Gosh, the people that I know that have MSN love version 8. They've all said that it's faster and the interface is better. But if you want to go back to v.7, you'll need the MSN 7 disk or your WinXP disk. Just uninstall v.8 and either re-install for the v.7 disk or use the XP disk to install it was a Windows Component (in Control Panel under Add/Remove Programs).
That said, as TwoRails said, you don't have to use their modified IE browser once you're on-line -- MSN Explorer is basically IE with a load of customizations for MSN subscribers. As for speeding your connection up, XP itself is optimized for broadband more than it is for a dialup connection. You can find some WinXP modem tweaks here. You may also want to update your access numbers -- make sure you are not dialing into a 28K line as MSN has lines optimized for 28K users and 56K users. -Craig Last edited by audiyoda; 11-07-2002 at 09:28 PM. |

Hi CoryC787,
Is there a "restore to prior version" option anywhere? Maybe you can remove it with the Add / Remove choice in your control panel and re-install your prior version. (as I mentioned above, I've never messed with verson 8, so I don't know what it does to the system. Maybe someone else has and can post a better way...) TwoRails Edit: Hi audiyoda!! Hope things are well... -- I gotta type faster, as your post wasn't up yet when I started !!
