problem with internet connection

im having this problem where my internet goes down but if i have something downloading it continues to download at normal speeds. not sure what this means. The internet doesn't come on until i restart my computer and it comes on after i restart 99% of the time. just don't understand why my download would continue but i can't browse the internet. the internet seems to go down alot and its just annoying. i have to restart my computer all the time. all my connections to my modem are in tact so not sure. any help on this would be appreciated. I have AT&T cable internet if that helps any. thanks.

Since you have cable and A T & T does not own the cable, the local television cable company does. It sounds like they may have a trap installed that prevents certain TV channels from being watched without a subscription. These traps can also cause sluggish internet connections.

the signal is still being sent wether or not the TV is on.Has nothing to do with the trap interfering with your connection.

I beg to differ, when I first got hooked to Roadrunner 3 years ago, I would have times when I could not get on, even though the TV was still recieving signals on the cable. It turned out to be two frequency traps (one outside my house and the other was in a larger distribution box). they changed/removed them and it cured all of my problems.
