Can't run any version of MSN on new build
Hi all
A little while back ago after I finished building my kids pc I went to add MSN internet access. till this day I can't run version 6.0,7.0 or the new version on this system. Everytime I attempt to sign up for internet access I get the message "UNABLE TO CONNECT TO MSN, THERE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH YOU COMPUTER OR OUR SERVER IS DOWN. PLEASE TRY AGAIN, IF YOU TRIED THIS TWICE THAN CALL TEC SUPPORT" Here is a list of what we have done so far 1. Uninstall MSN Explorer from add-remove windows componets and reinstalling from internet. did this with version 6.0 and 7.0 2. Clear dial-up credentials 3. Tried, emptying everything in the registry that has to do with MSN, no luck. There tech support level 1,2,3 and two hours later nothing. The only way to connect is through a manual connection where only one person can sign on and go through IE explorer. And another thing how come when we empty the registry how come is you go there a few minutes later everything is back like it never got deleted. I did everything short of reinstalling the OS which is Win XP I hope you can help thanks

I know this doesn't help you, but it sure sounds like MSN has been taking lessons from AOL........

You got that right, but I can say one thing we have no problems running AOL and I told them that repeatedly during our 2+ hrs on the phone. Also I had no problems with this using win98SE

So you have AOL on this system??? If it is then there's your problem. AOL's dialer is renouned for literally taking over the dialing properties of a system and not allowing other programs to become the default.

No don't have AOL on here I told them that because before we went to MSN we had AOL and it loaded no problem.
just finished re-installing the OS, because I felt it was corrupt. when I did connect using a manual connection it would not let me do any searching without tell me there was no connection, when I still was online. No I'm all done and everthing is running well. As I type this I'm using the PC mentioned in this thread. Thanks for all the help |

Since the beginning of mass marketing of Internet Access the main problem that I have seen is with the software the services provide. When I had dial-up I chose a service which did not use it's own software and just used the Windows Dial-Up Networking and you know what, I had zero problems, both using it and getting rid of it.
Unless you are absolutly hooked on MSN, I really suggest that you look around for another service, a lot of them are local suppliers that have better service, connection speeds, and rates. |

I'm not a fan of msn that is for sure, but we got our selfs into one of those deals where we have to stay for two years. We still have 10 months left. I personally can't stand them. Their new program looks nice but the service and connections sucks.

This is why I'm so high on Earthlink - they would LIKE for you to use their software but it uses a standard dialup networking connection and does not require that the software be installed. They are the closest national ISP to having a good local.

I had them once when I first started using the Internet around 99 then I went to Aol then MSN. At the time we weren't sure who to have so I stuck to MSN manily for the wife, then went to DSL which was recently cancelled because it became to costly two have two services. Originally I set up the DSL hoping everyone would like it but no one but me would use it so I decided to keep the less costly service
