Odd Internet/Browser Issue
Hi all,
Kinda strange issue that maybe someone can shed some light on. I use Mozilla (latest version) as my main browser, though I will sometimes use Opera or IE. I have recently been going to Dell's website as I am assisting my company to purchase a new laptop for the office manager. When I go to the site, and click 'Home and Home Office', I will see several links that I can click to continue. If I am using Mozilla or Opera, and click 'Save up to $300 on Refurbished Items', nothing happens. If I use IE, I go to the page. Also, the 'specials' links don't show up on Opera or Mozilla, but do on IE. I've seen things like this on a few websites (though it is rare), most often if I am downloading shareware or payware (though it doesn't happen that often). My settings on Opera and Mozilla are nearly identical. I am accessing the internet through the WebWasher proxy, I have cookies enabled through prompting, and javascript is enabled. On IE, default settings are on. In Mozilla, I have tried enabling cookies, fully and accessing the internet directly rather than going through the proxy. Nothing changes. The one clue that I may have to things is that in IE, I have the free anonymizer plug-in. When I turn it on, and try to access the same links on the dell site, I get an error that I must have Javascript enabled to access the link (anonymizer disables this). I checked Mozilla's preferences, and I do have it enabled, but still can't access the link. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Last edited by lpc300; 11-09-2002 at 11:14 PM. |

Hi ZANEY,
I can run ZA and browse Dell with IE. Tried shutting down ZA and using Mozilla...still same problem. Guess it's back to IE when checking out Dell. Annoying, since all my bookmarks are in Mozilla and I find it nearly 2x as fast as IE. |

OK, now I think I'm starting to go crazy. Opened IE, WebWasher and ZA active. Went to Dell. Links didn't work nor were some there, just like Mozilla and Opera. Activated anonymizer. Links appeared and were clickable, though I continued to get the Javascript incompatibility error with anonymizer. Turned off WebWasher and ZA, turned off anonymizer...links inoperable, again. When I try to go to Dell's site on my laptop (using IE), I have no problem, though I have a different configuration; no WebWasher, Norton Firewall instead of ZA, anonymizer isn't even installed.
Gonna try to uninstall anonymizer and see what that does. |

You might try Smart Explorer, located at http://www.smarteque.com/ Also see my post on http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...threadid=47608 for more info. |

Thanks for the info and the link Roy. I downloaded Smart Explorer and I'll give it a try. I've been able to access most of what I needed on Dell's site (though I still can't see some of the links with any of my browsers). On Mozilla, I had my setting too high (with cookies) and once I lowered them, I could at least access what I needed. I think this is some sort of Java issue. I know pretty much nothing about Java (except that some scripts can do nasty things to your computer). Myabe someone who does can shed some light on this issue.
