I have four PC's that need the SP1 for IE6 installed. Is there a procedure where I can download the entire SP and not have to go through the download process four times?

trulad,
That doesn't work. All you get is the small, begining code and not the entire SP. Thanks anyway! |

Clear your browser cache, download and install the whole thing. Then you should be able to pick it up out of your cache.
I found out the other day that IE6sp1 changes the default value of Automatic Updates to Yes. So if there is an update available, it heads over to MSupdate. |

(following up on mairving's tip
)Might put it in a folder called WUTemp - some of the Windows Update files use this temporarily - and then they are deleted on reboot. So if you look in that WUTemp folder before you reboot while installing the SP1, it might be in there. . . . Gary [There's also a folder simply called "Windows Update" in the Program Files folder. The files in there stay there unless you uninstall an update.] |

Try this:
Go to www.microsoft.com, rather than 'windows update'. Navigate your way through downloads, etc, until you get to the IE6 sp1 page... Choose 'network' installation, rather than express installation. It will allow you to download it and save it. Fish |

That network file is hard to spot, eh? I remember that strategy for the Win2000 Service Packs, too (Wasn't sure if they offered the same for IE). Nice tip kjjfish.
& force-flow - the Windows Update Setup Files subfolder (in the Windows folder) on my Win9x boxes is usually the IE6setup.exe folder, with the file "this folder is safe to delete" in there as a .txt file. Does that match what you see? I was thinking that the Service Pack stuff might/might not end up there - or in one of those other folders? wjperry - if you use the tip by Fish, you don't have to search around. I like that one. Though it is a little like "Treasure Hunt". . . . Gary |

kjjfish,
I give up. That "network" options is harder to find than a real winner in todays stock market. If you could send the url of the page where the option appears I would be happy. Surely even I could find it then. I feel like I might be on a snipe hunt!!! Thanks!! Bill Perry |

I never can connect (on my 56K) to MS with the MS Windows Update tool. I always download directly from the website.
