Talking Why Would You Do This?

I have DSL on a router. No crappy Enternet300 s/w.

Saw this ad on Yahoo's page.

http://promo.sbcglobal.net/sbcyahoodsl/

Everything the same?

If I didn't have the freebies I'd switch over:

A personalized home page you can design to fit your needs.

Email with 25MB of online storage and 10 sub accounts, each with 10MB of online storage.

SBC Yahoo! Photos and Briefcase with 110MB of online storage for photos and files.

A host of extras included at no extra cost - 3 SBC Yahoo!

Classifieds basic ads, 3 SBC Yahoo! Auctions listings, 3 Consumer Reports® guides, as well as your choice of two more premium services.

It's still PPPoE DSL but it uses Yahoo's mail servers and they REALLY want you to eat Yahoo's content and ads. I'm in the process right now of getting all the info because Ameritech is in the process of a forced migration to this around here and my customers are getting confused.

SBC is the real DSL provider in my area (others sell DSL, but SBC actually does the work.) They used to be a little high on price, but have become more competative, and you get service faster. If I needed the yahoo email stuff, I would be tempted, but for most it is more sizzle than steak. Funny I have used Yahoo as my homepage for years and never paid for the service. My email and homepage services are provided by others.

CH,
My thoughts exactly. I pay 49.95 a month for Pacbell/SBC and it would not be worth the one year savings for the spam and other stuff Yahoo would throw at you.
I tried the Yahoo email account and regardless of filters, etc, it filled with spam.
I use Yahoo for my startpage ONLY for the news blurbs, otherwise I'm not interested in the movies, music, singles that seem to pervade their page.

Don't do it, Carl. We got the scoop along with a faq and it simply said if you don't "upgrade" you won't have access to some "features". Big whoopy do.

Sarge,
I didn't intend to sign up Yahoo DSL. I sit here and fight spam and ads enough already.

Sarge - I've been told that you *have* to at least re-register, and your mail servers are gonna change to pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com and smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com - what do you know about this?

glc, I'm going by what they gave us employees (faq stuff). Didn't see anything about the e-mail stuff, but will inquire Monday. From what I saw, it said "if you don't upgrade you'll lose homepage, etc." Said nada about nothin' else. The e-mail addys should be an easy type deal without all the eye candy
