Comparing a 768/128 bronze and 384/384 silver dsl

I have to confirm my suspicions, so I'm asking for input.

I currently use a 768down/128up DSL attached to my server on a VPN. I access the server through cable connection. For 4-5MB files, would switching to a 384down/384up make a noticable difference in speed? My bottleneck is my server upload at 128k and it takes about 2.5 mins to download the file. Assuming about 1/3rd the time if I upgrade? And maybe 1/6th the time if I upgrade to gold at 768down/768up?

TIA

Only reason to go with a synchronous instead of asynchronous DSL is if you're video conferencing. That's the main reason businesses choose to go with the same up/down speed. If your files you're moving are only 4 to 5M, there's definitely no point in spending more money.

If you need more than 128k uploads, you will have to upgrade. Your decision, depending on how much more it costs. Your assumptions are pretty accurate. I believe that SDSL requires a dedicated line, it won't "piggyback" on a voice line like ADSL.

I'm considering it since some file transfers take between 2.5-10 mins over the VPN. Switching to 384k up and down is about $7 more, and 768k up and down is about $35 more. I need to check on the SDSL dedicated line prob. That may eliminate my upgrade choice anyhow.

Does your ISP offer a 1.5/256 ADSL option? That may help, it will double your upload speed.

No, 768k both directions is highest. It's pretty reasonable at $94/month. Bronze is $64 and silver is $70. Their caveat is no tech support so you must know what you are doing.
