internet explorer 2.1 lan
this is the situation;
cute girl she has a p166 with win 95 pre installed. she also has in the (i think the proper eng term would be a drom) annyway where she lives a connection to a router, she nor the landlord now anny of the settings of the router. the roommate has win XP and has it set to autodetect all and it works. i think i figured out a way to retrieve the settings unfortunatly the pc has no cd-drive (yet). but i can network it with my port so i can acess a cd if needed. the biggest problem left with this computer is configuring internet, unfortunatly it only has internet explorer 2.1 and i can not locate the place where i am supposed to set the inernet connection to lan??? annny thought are welkom |

Does it have a NIC and TCP/IP installed? That should be all you need.

You are going to want to update IE anyways, as you will find IE2.1 will have lots of problems displaying many of the pages you may want to view on today's internet, but of course you need to get connected first.

You can get IE newer versions off of those free disks that you find at BestBuy and CompUSA for internet service. I've used one from Prodigy cause it has IE 5.5 on it. May be harder to find now with MSN and AOL having their own browsers and having taken over the market.

Even an old AOL disk will have a full version of IE 5.5 on it. You can remove the "branding" later on.
Another option is to pick up a copy of MaximumPC magazine with the free CD, they always (almost) inlcude a complete version of the latest IE and Netscrap on each CD. |

Try Mozilla - it's Netscape without all the AOL baggage - or Opera. You can get them both FTP if need be.
