misdirections on the web???

Hey all,

I have a strange problem that I seem to be unable to resolve for the life of me. Especially at Yahoo, but also at a variety of other sites, I get misdirected...a page won't load, or part of a page won't load. MS-IE will give a DNS error.

Here are some details that almost have me worried: when I try to browse within Yahoo, ortry to access my yahoo mail through the messenger the browser will be pointed at a different DNS than that of Yahoo...but when I access the yahoo site itself, and then try to get to the mail it does work.
When I am at IGN,com some of their ads will not load...when I try to use the back butoon the browser gets misdirected again, and I have to click a second time to get the previous page to load.

The problem seems to be centered around doubleclick.net (shivers...I know), and my girlfriend clued me in on something called a BHO, figuring that that was the issue here. I ran a BHO manager, as well as a variety of other cleaners, hoping to get rid of whatever spyware is doing this, but so far no success. None of the programs detect anything out of the ordinary, and the last virusscan I did also came back clean. I am about to reinstall Windows, but before I spend a day redoing my machine I was hopinh someone else might know what is going on here, and give me some advice.

Additional info: Windows XP with SP1, MS-IE6, DSL connection

Thanks in advance

Andrew

I would first try a repair.
Go to add/remove programs, windows components, IE, and uninstall it.
Restart and reinstall it the same way.
If it works, I would hesitate to go get updates, as it might be SP1 for IE that's causing the problems.
