Standards In Browsers

Should Browser Developers make the way there browsers read HTML and other scripts to set standards to make it easy for web developers to incorporate cross-browsing?

I think we'd all like every browser to stick the the standards, it would make web development so much easier.

There ARE standards - published by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) - but Microsoft could care less, they have their own "standards". Other browsers follow these standards but don't necessarily support all items.
