Problems Connect to Certian Sites
I have two computers networked together via a cross-over cable.
The second computer inline connects through the onboard NIC...MSI Nforce board into a NIC (Netgear) on the primary computer. I have a second NIC (Negear) connect to the DSL Modem and then the DSL Modem (ZyXEL) connect to the phone jack. Both computers are running WinXP Pro and I have them using the WinXP PPPOE software to facilitate the connection. I can get to pretty much any site that I want on the primary computer, but can only get to some sites on the second computer. The sites I can and can't get to seem to be fairly random... Disabling my Firewall doesn't seem to make a difference. Any ideas on what to check to see this problem can be troubleshot? Thanks, Cirerrek

Oh, when trying to go to a site that it will not load, MSExplorer says "Website Found, Waiting for Reply" or after a while it will just shows the loading bar about 1/3 of the way there and the mouse icon has the hour glass next to them.
I can successfully PING and NSlookup the sites that will not load. Thanks, Cirerrek |

You only use the PPPoE software on the "server" computer - the "client" uses straight TCP/IP with DHCP.
Have you considered purchasing a router? |

Thanks for the correction, glc. Networking/Iternet Connection Sharing is on par with the Bermuda Triangle as far as I am a concerened. No matter how much I read about I still feel like I am running around in the dark.
Yep, the topic of a router has come before and came up again this morning Got any recommendations? Thanks, Cirerrek |

Linksys BEFSR41, BEFW11S4 if you want wireless capability.

Ended up going with a Netgear FR114P. Other than the router not liking a Cat 5e patch cable (seems to like the Cat 6 Ethernet patch cable okay), setup went pretty smoothly, x-fingers. Both computers can see the net now.
Still a few little quirks like Windows XP Pro always thinking I am working off line and wanting to try to connect. I seem to have gotten around that somehow, at least for the moment. Not sure if there is something I have to turn off or what I should do to prevent this? Thanks, Cirerrek |

Tools/Internet Options/Connections.
Click "setup" to run the connection wizard. Tell IE that you're connected via a LAN, and it shouldn't worry about not finding a connection anymore. |
