DPI and AOL
Please, please, please don't ask me to give up AOL. It's AOL or my wife! That being said, I just bought a 17" LCD monitor to replace my 15". All the windows XP display settings I had before had to be changed to accomodate my old eyes. Naturally, the start menu, task bar, etc. went and shrunk on me. One of the settings I changed was DPI from 96 to 125. Everything got bigger, problem solved. NOT SO FAST. The AOL welcome screen and various preference boxes suddenly had words missing or cut in half. After I narrowed it down to the DPI setting, trial and error brought me to 107% of normal size - 103 DPI. Even a touch more and the words start to go away again. This doesn't seem to happen with any other program. Is there any work-around?

![]() nooyawkah -- If you can't give up AOHell, maybe instead of increasing your DPI (which should have done what you wanted) why not just decrease the screen resolution if you can? If you were are 1024x768 go down to 800x600 -- that should take care of your needs in terms of icon/font sizes without having to mess with the DPI. -Craig |

Craig: nooyawkah has a LCD monitor - they look like doo-doo at less than native resolution, which is 1280x1024 on a 17 incher. I'd seriously suggest that it's time for eyeglasses - I had to do that a few years ago.

Opps.....missed that LCD part -- my bad.
Being that I still have my ABO opticianry certification, I'd say glasses certainly may be in order if 1280x1024 is that tought to see -- especially on a LCD. Is this by chance using WinXP or Win2000 -- if so is Cleartype enabled? Otherwise, if you need AOL, try MSN 8 -- comparable service that shouldn't have the DPI problems. -Craig |
