I have a hard to find virus...
It sends itself to other people though my mails somehow. Soon after I send a mail, the person who I'm sending the mail to gets 2 mails, the original, and one where the recipient is also the sender. IE. From: Name@wherever.com
To: Name@wherever.com. They are the same. Sometimes there are attachements that are huge 1.3MBs and larger. Other times there are advertisments for a vacation for 2, with links. I have had WINDOWS Explorer hook up to the internet through Internet Explorer. And I wouldn't be able to get online unless I let it. I think that is where the huge files come from. Then it won't do that for a long time, than start doing it again, so I think it's on some schedule. I have run several antivirus programs over it, and also The Cleaner 3. No luck. I have now turned off every scripting host I could find, including the java ones. I did find a file association called Dial-up Networking Script, that I didn't like, got rid of that to. Everything still works without the scripting hosts and script associations, so I'm hoping that will do it. Anyone got any ideas as to what virus this is so I can get rid of it. I am able to edit the registry, but have not found anything that stands out. [Edited by Mongoose on 10-20-2000 at 09:30 AM] |

Was the virus scanning done with a clean boot?
Have you looked in Win.ini or System.ini? How long has this been going on? I'm thinking you might restore an earlier registry backup. |
