Hi there,
I have just upgraded my os to win2000 and a new hard drive. I have set my old drive as a slave with win98 on it. Is there anyway I can get my outlook express messages from my old drive to the new drive or from one os to the other. I have transfered my address book over . thanks

Yes. Just do an export to a file. Then copy the file from one drive to the other or/and one OS to the other.
If some reason you can access the file then just copy it to a removable device and copy it back to the other OS. |

Hi,
Win98HarddriveLetter:\Windows\Application Data\Identities\{9F2BB........}\Microsoft\Outlook Express Copy all the files inside (most of them are dbx) to a folder on the new drive where you want the outlook express messages to be, then open Outlook Express and within options there is a setting to change the path to the dbx files. Set it to the folder where you copied the dbx files to, and that's it. RJ

No those are the actual files from the old drive. Copy them over manually in Explorer then tell OE where they are by changing the message path.

In Windows 98 all the outlook express message are stored in dbx files in this folder: Win98HarddriveLetter:\Windows\Application Data\Identities\{9F2BB........}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
You decide where they should be on the new hard drive. So create a new folder on the new drive and copy all the dbx files to the new folder. Then open Outlook Express, and in the settings you need to type in the path to the new folder that now contains the dbx files. RJ |

A bit late now, but I usually just "Import" the old messages into the newly installed OE from the old drive "store directory". Isn't this a little easier?

My outlook express problem is similar. Due to a problem posted in "Networking / Logon Failure" thread, I changed ID's on this pc a couple of times, when I logged back on, Outlook Express was empty, just a welcome message. I tried importing all the .dbx's I could find, but none of them had all the messages I had, can't find any .dbt's either. Its on a w2k system, outlook express 6. Help, I'm in deep s**t if I can't find them.

Hey Win,
try this, it's what i did. got to find in the start menu type in "outlook express messages" and click find. It should come up with all your message folders. then right click on the main folder and send it to your desk top. open outlook express then drag and drop the folder into your main messge window. as i said it worked for me. i was also almost in deep S**T!!! GOOD LUCK |

Hi amg
when you say drag and drop into the main message window, where do you mean? I tried dragging into the inbox but it just creates a new message and has the folder as an attachment. so far it hasn't resolved the problem. any thoughts? thanks |

thanks amg
had a good holiday thanks, ate too much though. Regards my outlook problem, i just bit the bullet and told the owner of the pc that i couldn't recover the messages and that he would have to get the important ones resent. but next time i get that problem i will give it a go. I found all the messages, or what looked like them, but they never backed the messages up, and i couldn't find any .dbt files. so, rather than waste any more time, i put it down as a lesson learned... next time i go anywhere near windows logons, BACK UP OUTLOOK! |
