Running Wireless Modem and 56K Modem at Same Time
In my area, many people are offering free wireless ISP services and I was thinking about trying it since it would be great to have super fast download speeds. So I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good, reliable cheap wireless modem and whatever other equipment I would need.
The other thing I'd like to know is if I could run or at least maintain both a wireless modem and a 56K modem or would I always have to remove and reinstall the perspective drivers when I want to switch. I kind of find this 802.11 wireless stuff unbelievable and don't trust it and won't believe it until I actually see it working. But from everything I've read, there's a good chance that it's going to be the new big wave to hit because there's nothing else on the horizon that is so close to breaking through big time as this is. |

Wireless does not use a "modem" - it's networking equipment.
Can you elaborate on "free wireless" please? I get the impression that you may have neighbors offering you a wireless "free ride" on their existing broadband account? |

You can use both in one system easily. You only need to specify which connection to use when you want to surf. If it's setup correctly, IE will ask you which to use as soon as you open it.

So I guess I have to get a wireless network card not a wireless modem.
Yes, that's correct but it's not just neighbors, it's a whole group of neighbors spread out everywhere and working as an organization. In fact, there are two separate organizations that I know of coming from the following Web sites: http://www.bawug.org/ http://sfwireless.net/ |

You will need to get either a wireless network card or a wireless access point and a standard network card - either way, it will coexist with a dialup modem no problem.
