Ok I try to make this as short as possible:
Reformatted hard drive, installed Win2000 Professional, downloaded iexplorer5.5, downloaded Service Pack1.
That’s when the problems started:
1. Can’t click on java link get blank page or nothing happens at all.
2. Clicking on help produces error message that iexplorer help created errors
3. Downloaded explorer for the 2nd time

I checked my security settings and advanced Internet options, vm enabled, java enabled
Still the same problems. Now each time I click on a shortcut to start Internet explorer an
Error message appears, iexplorer created error and will be shut down. Only way to surf right now is through Outlook L
Needless to say I’m in need of some good advice.

Any help would be appreciated

FYI: Win2K is NOT a webserver! Win2K is just an operating system, ESPECIALLY the professional version, which though has quite a few services is more than competent running as a workstation .. to top it off the filesystem, kernel and process threading is by far superior than ANYTHING win9x/ME has to offer. It is always recommended that Win2K is much better on your workstation provided you have the resources [monetary and h/w] to keep it happy.

PS: saying that Win2k could be a server is still much more accurate than calling something a webserver .. and this has NO BEARING whatsoever on Java on a browser. Ever tried loading up http://localhost:80 ?

ioonas: I run win2k prof. as well .. but had no problems after putting in IE5.5 SP1. What I would suggest is try reinstalling the Java VM. The failsafe option would be Microsoft Virtual Machine search it out from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/ or the better alternative would be JAVA2 Run time environment from http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.2/jre/
