I just received my domain name. I need to know how do I get my site up and running I thought I ordered the web hosting also but possibly not. What I would like to do is set up a computer here in my office and use it as a web server. They did give me a DNS address when I registered my domain, can someone give me some advice on how I go about this. TY

Hi fireax29,
If you ordered hosting, you would not need to set up a web server. Otherwise, here's a good site with instrucitons on setting up a web server. http://www.dslwebserver.com/ Hope that helps. |

If you feel confident enough, try Apache w/ a Linux set-up. The FAQs and Tutorials will tell you what to do.

...which is an excellent idea.
It just so happens that right at this very moment I keep getting hit repeatedly with a "subSeven Triojan". It's been going on for about an hour. The IP address keeps chaning too...

Fireax29,
I am new to these forums, and I was caught off guard by your username. Usually you don't see names like ours in a pc tech forum. Anyway, I clicked on your profile, and I too share the same struggles as you. Spending almost every day off running my power washing business is making me too old, too fast. I have thought long and hard about just going to school full time to finish my degree and say to hell with the fire service. What have you done to try to boost your career in computers? Has it been successful? Drop me an email if it is easier for you. Thanks and good luck. cwsfire@yahoo.com |
