Using IE 5.5, lately I've encountered a very annoying problem. In the middle of browsing, when I click on a bookmark, etc., the page comes up as "page not found...". After doing some digging, I found "use proxy server" checked and some #'s in the settings box for proxies. I uncheck and continue on until next time. What could be causing this?

Send a message via AIM to mosquito
maybe the auto-detect proxy settings option is switched on?

Are you using ad blocking software? That will do it every time.

Nothing is checked as far as "use a proxy server". I have no ad blocking, etc., unless mama got it and she would have told me. What gets me is, I can check the settings right now and they'll be ok. 10-15 minutes from now (less or more) I'll click on anything a get a "page not found". I've learned to check the settings, and whammo, proxy is now checked. It's not doing it on Netscape.

sarge - did you ever install a download enhancer of any type to play with it? What about connection sharing software?

You might want to check your hosts files - hosts.sam and lmhosts.sam. The only IP that should be in there is 127.0.0.1.
