For about the last 3-6 months, I have been getting these windows-type popup boxes whose title box says "Messenger Service", but they have no other buttons except for the ok button. They are junk mail type things selling diploma's etc. And the frequency with which I am getting them is increasing every day!
I do have MSN, but it hasn't been used since July (I can tell that from the add/remove programs) I have been cruising the internet for years now and never got these popup ads before. AND, just to be clear, they are not internet-type popup ads, I mean these boxes pop up where I'm not even using Internet expolorer- ie while I'm using Excel or whatnot. And I shut down my computer last night and when I turned it on this morning, the very first thing I get is another dang popup!. What ARE these things and how do I get rid of them? How are they entering my computer? Thank-you. I feel kindof invaded.....

Thank you!!!!
And that explains why they just started about 6 months ago... it roughly coincides with the time I upgraded from winNT to win2K so I bet winNT couldn't receive them.. I hope this will shut down all incoming ports... (well except for email and www) because it says "We are aware that there are several knock-offs of our software out there that send on UDP port 137 and TCP 139, so you may want to block those also. " Anyway, thank you VERY VERY MUCH!!!!! |
