Question very strange ftp:// problem

hi, i have got a very strange problem with ie6. I design web sites and I access these using ftp:// alot. Everyone of my ftp addresses work fine except one, when i enter it IE stops responding. It just that one ftp: address, all the rest a okay. Its really odd. Does anybody know what might be happening.

I use IE6 SP1 now, but I used to use IE5 and occasionally it did the same thing. Im using IE6 after i formmated the drive so there is nothhing remaing on the HD that would effect it.

Thanks

Nickuss

Have you tried not using IE and getting an FTP program?

If you are designing websites, you should be using a FTP client, not a browser, to upload the sites. WS-FTP LE is free, you can download it from Tucows.

i was using an ftp client, ws-ftp, but i found IE much much easier because its like copying and pasting from one folder to another like windows explorer style. Its just one address that does.....strange. anyways, thanks

There are FTP clients that allow explorer-style pasting, but they aren't free.

I've used both, I prefer WS-FTP for uploading files, not an IE based one.

To address the problem, is this site on a different server than others? Does the server allow FTP directly into your home directory? Any chance we can get the URL and try it ourselves?

a little off topic, is there a ftp program that launches automatically when you type ftp:// in the browser?

Not that I know of, but CuteFTP (and others) will monitor the clipboard, and open and automatically connect when you copy any ftp:// address to the clipboard.
