Greetings,
As the subject says, when I start IE6.0, I have my homepage set to Google, which should go straight to google but instead it displays on the bottom, Finding site: www.google.com and the blue progress bar fills up a bit and then stays that way for a while and then finally it pops up a page that says The Page Cannot Be Displayed, but if I hit refresh, Google immediately pops up, happy as can be. I've got a DSL connection and I am connecting through a Netgear ProSafe Firewall/Pring Server FR114P. My second computer connects on the same router connects just fine every time. Any ideas how to get my computer to connect properly each time? Thanks, Cirerrek

Control Panel, Internet Options, Connections
Make sure both machines have the same settings, especially the LAN settings - I recommend that all boxes be unchecked and "never dial a connection" be selected. |

Go to www.Google.com, then open the tool tab and choose internet options and in the home page section press Use Current then press apply.

I did have some problems with google a while back. I don't use them as my start page, but for a bit there I couldn't get to it the first time but a refresh got it to load, so it may have nothing to do with your machine. Also found that sometimes I can just type google.com and it gets me there, my daughter told me that cause she thought they actually changed their address leaving out the www!

Scheww, finally got enough time to set down and look at this. Looks like it was just a matter of cleanup. I still had the old connection (pre-router) on my computer, which confused the computer into not using the LAN Settings. I deleted that connection and did as glc said, made sure all the options were the same on the LAN setting between either computer and my computer now connect right away.
Thanks a lot ,Cirerrek |
