home host server question
how can i use my home computer as a sort of "hosting server" while i'm online? can you guys help me please? i don't even have an idea how to search for tutorials of it because i don't know what the proper term is. initially, i'm going to use it to host graphics that i post.

I don't think you can do that while you're using the computer. I think it has to be a dedicated server in which it's only being used for that purpose.

There's some useful information here and a couple of links to more.
One thing that page doesn't mention is how people are going to find your site once you've registered a domain. If you're on a dialup, not only is access to your site going to be painfully slow but you won't have a static DNS for the URL to point to. Yahoo offers a free "photo album" on which you can post all your pics. Might want to check that out before you go through the pain of trying to host your own site.

Yes, especially as far as images posted on forums go, remember that when you're offline people who view a page you've posted in will get broken images everywhere
.You could use one of the services like dynip.com, but you'd have to keep it updated all the time as your IP changes. |
