My father-in-law is slowly going blind from macular-degeneration. He uses a 19" monitor at 600X480 resolution and sometimes with a magnifying glass.
He asked if there was a way to have webpage text appear in bold. (His favorite newspaper) Is there a setting or a program that will change the text to bold? BTW, we did experiment with Win98 magnifier in Accessibility and at that time was not very helpful. Carl |

You can increase the font size in IE, under view, text size.
If that doesn't help, try setting the default Windows font in bold. I'm on XP, and can't remember how to change the default font, but another thing to try may be a theme. There are a few that use bold block fonts in hi res, as well as a contrast color scheme to make it easy for older eyes. |

reboot,
Thank you. We figure he will give up online reading this summer as his eyes are starting to fail at an increasing rate. We will give your suggestions a work out. Carl |

The accessibility features are much better in W2K/XP than in 98.

Hi mairving,
Well, I'm loaning him my old EMachines and the darn thing is proprietary. The restore disk has everything on it, including the O/S. I'll go over there and do some experimenting. reboot, Changing the text size fonts will enlarge the headlines of articles but the story text stays the same size. It does the same thing when I use the Control Key and the scroll wheel on the mouse. Thanks for the suggestions reboot and mairving. I'll get something figured out. Carl |

Hi Kubie,
Not sure if this is in the right area of interest for you, but with a mouse with a scroll mouse, you can Crtl-Scroll to increase / decrease font size. When I go to the max, it sure looks bold and the letters are very large. HTH TwoRails |

TwoRails,
The contriol key+mouse scroll only enlarges the Headlines but doesn't enlarge the text of the story. He is now using accessibility and is quite satisfied. Statica, Thanks for the links. I'll send them over to my dad-in-law and have him see what they have to offer. Carl |

Another option could be to try a different browser. Mozilla does font sizes a little better than IE.

Ctrl-scroll works very well in Opera too.
