I can not access this web site...help

It is to rodbuilding.org
I was able to get to the site until about 3 weeks ago. Now this is the error I get:
The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

I have tried everything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave from SB,

I can access the site, so it's still there.

What web browser are you using? What OS are you using?

Are you using a firewall? Are you using a cookie blocker?

Have you tried clearing out the Temporary Internet Files?

I wouldn't do anything drastic for a day or two, since the worm attack on the internet last Friday, several sites are just now getting back into operation. Pricewatch was off all weekend and just back up today.

Thanks for the reply guys,
I am using internet explorer. I am sorry but I don't know the answers to the rest of your questions. OS may be outlook express but I'm not sure. I have adjusted cookie settings with no luck. I have not tried clearing out temp settings yet. Can you walk me through that??

Hi Dave from SB;
Welcome to PCMECH!!!!
Just go to ControlPanel>InternetOptions, and right there on that general tab page that comes up first, in the center is titled temporary internet files. Just click on the rectangular box to delete, and say yes to offline files. HTH

Yes. I was able to access the site for a long time until one day I was not. I contacted rodbuilder.org and they had no clue as to way I couldn't get on. I have a renter, we share the cable service and have a router, could this be part of the problem?

Does your renter or getting the router or anything coincide with when you stopped being able to get to this website??
Here is something to try to narrow trouble down::
Go to the DOS prompt and type this::

C:\>ping www.rodbuilding.org

Let us know what the results of the ping are...

ktkendall,
No to all your questions. I tried the DOS prompt and it did not work.
It seems the last time I was able to see the site I was ordering some back issues and it would not let me complete the order. After that I was not even able to go back to the site.

I assume the ping request gave U 4 messages that said request timed out. It should have translated the web adddress into an IP address though. Did it do that part?? Try a reset/power down and back up of that router and cable modem. Can't hurt at this point.

Do a search on your computer, for a file called "Hosts".
Open it in Notepad, and see if rodbuilding.org is listed.
You can simply remove that entry, and save the file again.
Some programs (certain versions of P2P apps for example) include a hosts file to cut down on spam. It's possible that site is included, or it's IP.

No, you can't ping from dos mode - it has to be from a dos prompt in Windows. Look in your start menu for "MS-Dos Prompt" or "Command Prompt". If you can't find it, start.....run.....command.

Take the computer off the LAN, plug it directly into the modem.
See if you can get to the site that way.
If not, then it could be your ISP blocking it for some unknown reason, or something in your Windows configuration.
If you CAN, then it's definitely something in the router config.

Well, we re-booted the modem and bypassed the router and still cannot pull up the site.
Should I call a local computer guy?

Does it really seem to be just this 1 site only?? Can you go to all other websites with no trouble? And as asked by GLC, can the renter get to this website?? That info will help norrow problem down to where the blockage is.

No, you probably shouldn't take your PC in to shop, since your renter that shares your ISP conection with you can not access either, that kind of puts the trouble in the router, or with your Internet provider. Since you couldn't connect with your PC direct to the cable modem either, then it's pointing to the cable modem itself or your provider. I Don't think there is anything in the cable modem that would cause that, so maybe time to call Internet provider tech support. They also may want you to be hooked direct to the cable modem also, as they do not always like you having that router in the picture..

Yup, the ISP is the next phone call to make.
You've eliminated your computer (because your roomie can't get their either on his computer).
You've eliminated the router, because you took it out of the equation.
Cable modems just transfer signals, there's no way it can block anything.
Your ISP must have a block on some IP's for some reason, it's not getting through their hardware/software.
