Boom Ha ing problems surfing

Hi lately I've been having problems surfing the www. I can connect no problem, but when I try to surf I get alot of "Can't display page" messages. I use the same dial-up as I do on my kids pc, and they aren't having any problems. I tried calling my ISP server and they had me reset something trough the run command.

That hasn't helped either. Sometimes when I get to a site, such as this one or fourm click I can click on a fourm put can't read anything in it. I keep getting the same Can't display message". Also sometimes when I'm at a site all the pictures will not load either. What is up with that.

Asus A7N8X XP 2400/266 Nvidia4Ti 4600 Soundblaster Audigy 2 Wd JB 100GB HD winXp home, US Robotics V.92 external modem. Just the basics. Just so you know I have been through 2 PCI modems with pretty much the same problems.

Ie 6 and MSN Explorer 8. Yep clean all the time. At least twice a week. This new system is about 2 wks old and have not done much surfing. Keeping clean is what I have done on all my PC's.

sounds like a setting under internet options>advanced tab< I would compare mine the the other PC to see if anything is different.

I compared everything to the other PC and everything is the same. All this morning I had trouble with the internet on this PC. No problems on the other. Ok know, but for how long? Any other suggestions? Is there anything in the bios settings that controls modems that I should look at? or in modem settings itself. I can connect no problems, its just trying to surf is where the problem lies. Thanks DD

52.0kbs to 53.2kbs. Now I deleted all cookies in my IE files. I'm woundering if I have to increase the amount of disk space to use for my cookies. Tonight it is working fine but I not sure what will happen tommorow morning. Disk space is set to 1769 MB. if that helps.

My temporary internet files folder is set at 50 MB, I don't see any reason you should have to increase yours, it's already more than enough.

Try slowing the modem down a bit - it might be connecting TOO fast for the phone line.

Command sets are the same with externals as internals. If you have an external, make sure your serial port properties are set to 115200, 8, none, 1, hardware - Windows default is 9600 and Xon/Xoff which will choke the port.

Ok I set the thing at 115200 , but where to you find the other 3 8,none,1. Today I was having problems again loading pages. One minute I'm ok the next nothing. This is getting to be a pain in the neck.

Ok now I'm getting real mad. Even though I'm going back to DSL when I get home from vacation, I'm still having problems on the NEW PC with the internet connection. I can connect no problem, but most of the time I can't go any where. I keep getting message "Can't Display Page" then I have to close inet and reconnect. I have done everything so far and nothing has changed. I have been through "2" internal modems and now have a external one. What gets me is my kids surf with absolutely not problems on their computers and they acctually surf faster than me and they have 56K modems also. I hope the problem doesn't lie within this new PC I built a month ago when all this stuff started. I need to find out what is what before I go and hook up the DSL modem again. I don't want they same problem with that like I'm having now. DD

This is what i would do: in the control pannel remove the modem and in the device manager remove all modems there. remove all your dial up setups.shut down and unplug your external modem and restart the machine to get things back to normal then shut down and plug your modem in and start the computer then install the modem drivers then call your isp and set up the modem with them and there settings....

Talked to MSN today and they seem to think it has to do with what they called "Network Stack". They said I need to reinstall it because it is corrupt. where is it and how do I reinstall it. Thanks

They are referring to TCP/IP.

What do ya do uninstall the TCP/IP and reinstall? They also said because MSN 8 runs off if IE6 it might need to be repaired. They suggested I download it agian. what do ya think.

It sounds like this still might be a problem when I hook up DSL.

Worst case, you will have to reinstall XP when you get your DSL.

For now, uninstall MSN 8 and TCP/IP, reboot, then reinstall MSN 8. Then repair IE if necessary.

Send a message via ICQ to Eric H. Send a message via AIM to Eric H.
man, I get this problem at least once a year on my PC. I finally switched to mozilla because of it.

The only thing I know that works is a clean windows install. Even eradicating and reinstalling IE doesn't work. go figure.

Went to microsoft knowledge base and it says you can't uninstall TCP/IP. It say you can reset it. Does anyone know to do it. I found their article very confusion.

I can't be certain but since I have had this DSL back on line I haven't noticed any thing going wrong with the connection and surfing of the web. I was on it most of the day when I had it connected before Vacation, and for the last 5 hrs since I have been home. Maybe the problem had to do with the dial-up. Will keep you updated.
