I am having a hard time trying to download a pdf file from one of yahoo groups.
My Operating system is WinXP Pro with SP1 and just recently all the Security Updates. I also have Adobe 5.0. I am using 56k modem. The files look like this: Chemistry,Cells2.pdf 2nd Lecture 2149 KB Josuelsa 01/20/2003 Introduction.pdf Introduction pdf format 1833 KB Josuelsa 01/17/2003 Tissues,Skin,Bone.pdf Lecture 3 2779 KB Josuelsa 01/28/2003 I can download the first 2 files but not the last one "Tissues, Skin,Bone". When I click on the last file I get a complete white screen and the status bar at the bottom saying "done". The very first time there was an Adobe message saying "Error: I/O ran out of time...". I have uninstalled acrobat, reinstall it, used an acrobat 4.0 version, and rolled back with system restore to a time before the latest WinXP security updates with no fix. Can explorer be the problem here? Is there a way to restore explorer in WinXp? I also noticed this file "Tissue,Skin,...." is longer than the other ones. Any ideas? Thanks. |

Have you tried right-clicking and doing a "Save target as..." instead of just opening it from IE? When I have problems opening PDF files, downloading them separately and then opening them directly in the Acrobat Reader usually works.
If it is a link that the rest of us can get you, you could also post it and we can give it a try. |

I am a frequent user of yahoo groups and I think the most likely problem is with the file itself at yahoo.
Quite often the file may be showing but you are not able to download, this includes .jpg, .gif, .doc and .txt files as wel as .pdf. You might want to send a note to the group owner and ask to have that file checked. I have always been most fortunate, the group owner usually answers within a few hours of my requests. If the file is ok then send an email to whomever posted the file asking to have it emailed directly to you. Failing that, ask in Messages for another member to email it to you. Sometimes this is the only alternative. Hope this helps.

I "Save target as..." but when I try open it Acrobat Reader gives me a message,
"There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired" It makes sense what Eaglefeather says, but out of a class of 30 only me and another person had problems downloading this file, the other person only had problems the first time and was able to download it the second time. What else could it be? Thanks. Last edited by Charles; 02-05-2003 at 01:05 PM. |

I joined the group and downloaded the file twice. Each time it was short by over 400 k. There is definitely something wrong with the file.
Recommend you get hold of the author and have him/her repost the article. Only the person that posted it to the group can edit or remove it. |

I was able to download it at school. Don't know if broadband may makes a difference.
2 messages came out of acrobat this last time I tried with 56k at home with a 45' shorter RJ-11 cable. "An internal error has ocurred" "Could not find Acrobat External Window handler" At any rate, thanks for the info. |
