Angry

So, I've lost about 6 emails this morning already thanks to Hotmail. I just type and suddenly, randomly, I get some weird exception error and IE is shut down. Running IE 5.5 on NT 4.0. Its rather absurd. Just thought I would rant a bit.

You just gotta love Micro$oft. I personally cannot stand web-based email anyway. Hotmail - Yahoo - etc. They are nothing but spam magnets.

Call me old-fashioned, but I stick with POP-based mail and use Pegasus. If you want an "email address for life" you can get a free forwarding service that will forward your mail to your current ISP of choice.

MS is just wonderful! ha. I use hotmail through Outlook at home, and use it via the web at work.. I feel better that way in case anyone decides to snoop.. but of course everything comes with its price. For me, the price is writing everything over again when I don't hit Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C in time!
The wonderful forums on their communities also tend to lose all information that you type, without posting anything. GOoooo MS! (GOooo away!!!!)

Hotmail gets very tempermental at times. I have a lot of crashing at the site if I'm replying to messages.

Yahoo is POP3 account which can work with Outlook Express. The hitch is whether or not your ISP blocks the Yahoo SMTP. It's not as herky jerky as Hotmail and you can use ICQ to preview your Yahoo e-mail!

The crash occurs when Hotmail loads up the script for "rich"text while composing mails. The funny occurence is that while its flaky enough to crash IE 5.5 browsers at times [even on Win2K] Nutscape seems to be be able to withstand it. Try asking your browser to prompt before loading any scripts and then prompt NO to the hotmail script. It doesnt crash.

Send a message via ICQ to sAlt_sHaKer
I really hate it when a fatal exception appears whenever I'm typing something with Hotmail.

Hotmail was doing some updates to their servers yesterday, I couldn't access my account. Other than that it has been very reliable, for me at least.

I personally use Yahoo; the family uses Outlook or Netscape. Only spam I get is my own carelessness. I was looking around at a site that carries "at home jobs" and was dumb enough to give yahoo email address. Now I get at least 10 mails a day telling me how to get rich.

The Hotmail filter is pretty good to prevent spam. Like Sarge mentioned you get spam if you are careless about giving out your email address.

Indeed POP mail is annoying if you want to check your email other than your own computer. Even worse when you switch ISP and your email address is not valid anymore and you have to give your new email address to everyone. Where as web base email stays with you.

Yahoo IS a POP3 account. As such, can be managed with either an e-mail program or go up to the Yahoo site. Best of both worlds.

Yahoo, from its site, will allow you to retrieve and read your other POP3 e-mail. Which means, you can access your e-mail from any computer in the world that can log on to Yahoo!

I try to get people, especially who have broadband, to use Yahoo and read their e-mail up there! Let Jerry Yang take care of the spam and deletes!

Also, ICQ can be used to check your e-mail, like a "You've Got Mail!" only better. You can use it to read the first twenty lines of your e-mail, reply, or delete the thing right from the server without ever having to log on to the site or bring the garbage into your computer!

so i was thinking, gee, hotmail is alot better now, since the upgrades. and like it was reading my damn mind, BAM, it crashes. i was so pissed. anyway, i've converted to netscape for hotmail. never a problem!! when in doubt... don't use MS!
yeah that hotmail filter isnt so good when a roommate sneaks on your computer and looks up porn for a couple hours while youre at work! i'm being inundated.. fortunately the Blocking feature helps a tad. argh.

You can check and send pop mail from anywhere in the world.

http://www.mailstart.com will get any pop mail and let you send, reply, and forward.

Personally, I don't need to look at a banner ad or go to a website to check my mail. If I can't get it in a mail client I don't want it.

I have several e-mail accounts. For my Hotmail, I READ my e-mail at the Hotmail site. This keeps the garbage, spam, and viruses off my hard drive. But the crashing is usually when composing a REPLY. So I SEND my e-mail directly from Outlook Express.

For POP3 accounts, I preview them through ICQ...I usually delete them right from the server. Sometimes, though, I have Hotmail fetch them first! I want to get a thorough look at things.

It works real good. Actually, you'd be surprised how much my hard drive doesn't get fragmented because I don't put the e-mail on my hard drive!
